SACRAMENTO, OCTOBER 22, 2021 – Former Sacramento Mayor Heather Fargo today endorsed Angelique Ashby for the State Senate District 6 seat.
Fargo was the city’s first full-time mayor, serving from November 2000 to December 2008. She also served as a Sacramento City Councilmember representing downtown, midtown and Natomas from 1989 to 2000.
“No one works harder for her constituents and her community than Angelique Ashby,” said Fargo in making the endorsement. “She is exactly the kind of State Senator that we need in the Capitol to ensure that our state senate district is well represented. I am incredibly proud of Angelique’s progress in the city council and as Mayor Pro Tem, and I know she will get the job done, especially on issues important to women and our families.”
“As a long-time leader in our community and a pioneering woman in Sacramento politics, Mayor Fargo’s endorsement is particularly meaningful,” said Ashby. “It’s an honor for our campaign to receive support from one of the most respected elected leaders Sacramento has ever had.”
Mayor Fargo joins incumbent Senator Dr. Richard Pan (D-Sacramento), Assemblymember Jim Cooper (D-Elk Grove), Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen and more than 350 other community leaders in endorsing Ashby for the open State Senate seat. District Six includes the City of Sacramento, Elk Grove, West Sacramento, and most of Sacramento County.
