SACRAMENTO – Today, California State Senate candidate Angelique Ashby announced that she earned the endorsement of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 3299 (AFSCME 3299).
“As a former single mom who used public assistance and put herself through school, Angelique Ashby knows how hard our members work to make a better life for their families,” said Kathryn Lybarger, President of AFSCME 3299. “Her record in the City reflects this, and she’ll take that fight for working families to the Senate. We’re proud to stand with her.”
The University of California’s largest employee union, AFSCME 3299 represents more than 27,000 Service, Patient Care, and Skilled Craft workers at the University of California, and is comprised mostly of women and people of color who are the lowest paid workers in the UC system.
“As a UC graduate myself, I’m honored to receive the support of the hardworking members of AFSCME Local 3299,” said Angelique Ashby. “In California, we take pride in our world class public universities and research institutions, and so much of their success is possible because of the hard work of thousands of AFSCME members.”
Ashby currently represents Sacramento City Council District 1 and serves as Vice Mayor of the City of Sacramento. Senate District 8 includes the cities of Sacramento and Elk Grove, and most of Sacramento County.
