SACRAMENTO – Today, Angelique Ashby announced that Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis has endorsed her campaign for State Senate District 8.
“I am proud to support Angelique Ashby because she will be a fighter for families, women, and children in the State Senate,” said Kounalakis. “It’s critically important to elect more women to the Legislature, and I look forward to working with Angelique to champion policies that advance support for families, equal rights, and a woman’s right to choose.”
“It is an honor to have the support of the first woman elected Lieutenant Governor of California,” said Ashby. “She has broken barriers for so many women, and her support is even more meaningful knowing that she has deep ties to the Sacramento region.”
Kounalakis made history in 2018 when she was the first woman elected Lieutenant Governor of California, and again this year when she became the first woman to sign a bill into state law in California.
Ashby currently represents Sacramento City Council District 1 and serves as Vice Mayor of the City of Sacramento. Senate District 8 includes the cities of Sacramento and Elk Grove, and most of Sacramento County.
