SACRAMENTO – Today, Angelique Ashby’s campaign declared victory in the Senate District 8 race, after former California Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones conceded:
“For over a decade, I have fought hard for Sacramento families, and I decided the best way for me to continue doing the most good for as many people as possible was to take that fight to the State Capitol.
I could not be more honored that the people of Sacramento, Elk Grove, Elverta and Rio Linda have chosen me to represent them in the State Senate – and that I will be the first woman in 20 years to do so.
I was honored to have the support of Governors Gavin Newsom and Jerry Brown, Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis, and Secretary of State Dr. Shirley Weber. Our campaign was buoyed by the support of organizations that represent countless hardworking Californians. And it was powered by the best campaign staff and volunteers in the state. Lastly, I am deeply thankful to Dr. Richard Pan for his many years of service, and his tremendous belief in me.
To the people of Senate District 8 – this victory is for you. My team and I pledge to work tirelessly to serve you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
In the latest update from the Sacramento County Elections Office released today, Ashby’s lead grew to approximately 6,700 votes with less than 12,000 ballots left to count in all of Sacramento County.
