SACRAMENTO – Today, Angelique Ashby announced that she was awarded the 2022 Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate distinction. This distinction is given to candidates who have a demonstrated record of advocating for gun violence prevention and who have made a commitment to govern with gun safety in mind.
“I am a proud member of Moms Demand Action, and its mission is very close to my heart,” said Angelique Ashby. “It is an honor to be given this distinction, especially in light of recent acts of gun violence throughout the country and right here in our own community. I pledge to continue doing all I can to pursue common sense gun reforms and prevent gun violence in our communities.”
In December 2018, a beloved librarian in Ashby’s City Council district named Amber Clark was killed in the parking lot of the library where she worked. The act of senseless gun violence rocked the community and made a lasting impact on Ashby, who went on to work closely with Amber’s husband, Kelly Clark, to advocate for further measures to prevent gun violence in our community, including gun violence prevention programs and gun safety reforms.
Ashby currently represents Sacramento City Council District 1 and serves as Vice Mayor of the City of Sacramento. Senate District 8 includes the cities of Sacramento and Elk Grove, and most of Sacramento County.
