The California Democratic Legislative Women’s Caucus has endorsed Angelique
Ashby for State Senate in District Six.
“Women in the legislature account for less than 33 percent in both the Assembly and
Senate. Although we still lack gender parity, we hope to continue to grow our representation
with women like you,” noted Caucus Chair Cristina Garcia (D-Bell Gardens) in its endorsement.
“The communities in the 6th Senate District need your strong voice to represent them
in Sacramento.
“Democratic women in the Assembly, Senate, and Constitutional Offices are leaders and we
continue to advance legislation and issues that improve the lives of women and children. We
work collaboratively for a better California and we hope to have you join our ranks by
representing the 6th Senate District.”
“It’s an honor to earn the support of the California Democratic Legislative Women’s Caucus,”
said Ashby. “In my years of service at the local level, I have so often been the only woman at
the dais that it feels both foreign and comforting to have such strong, accomplished women –
and potential future colleagues – now standing in my corner. I’m grateful.”
Ashby also has been endorsed by a number of local and national women’s groups, including the
National Women’s Political Caucus of California.
In addition, Ashby, who is Mayor Pro Tem of the City of Sacramento, has been endorsed by
retiring District Six State Senator Richard Pan, M.D. (D- Sacramento), who chairs the State Senate’s
Health Committee as well as Elk Grove Assemblymember Jim Cooper.
District Six includes the City of Sacramento, Elk Grove, West Sacramento, and most of Sacramento
County.
