SACRAMENTO – Today, Angelique Ashby announced that she has been endorsed by EMILY’s List. The group, which is the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women candidates.
“EMILY’s List is thrilled to endorse Angelique Ashby for election to California’s 8th Senate District,” said EMILY’s List Vice President of State and Local Campaigns Sarah Curmi. “As a Sacramento City Council member, she secured millions in funding to build schools, community centers, parks, and fire stations. Her dedication to increasing childcare access, improving the education system, and fixing the gender pay gap will make her an excellent legislator for SD 8.”
EMILY’s List joins several statewide and local women’s organizations that have endorsed Ashby, including: the California Legislative Democratic Women’s Caucus, National Women’s Political Caucus – CA, California Women’s List, and Moms in Office. She also holds a 100% rating from Planned Parenthood Advocates Mar Monte.
If elected, Ashby would be the first woman to represent the Sacramento region at the State Capitol in 20 years.
Ashby currently represents Sacramento City Council District 1 and serves as Vice Mayor of the City of Sacramento. Senate District 8 includes the cities of Sacramento and Elk Grove, and most of Sacramento County.
