Senate Majority Leader Emeritus Bob Hertzberg Endorses Angelique Ashby

SACRAMENTO – Today, California State Senate Majority Leader Emeritus Bob Hertzberg endorsed Angelique Ashby for Senate District 8.

“In order to be successful in the California State Senate, you need to have guts, smarts, and integrity – and Angelique Ashby’s got all of the above.” said Majority Leader Emeritus Hertzberg. “She’ll make a great senator, and I’m proud to give her my endorsement.”

Senator Hertzberg was first elected to the California State Assembly in 1996 and later served as the 64 th Speaker of the Assembly. He returned to the Legislature in 2014 to represent the San Fernando Valley in the State Senate and served as Senate Majority Leader from 2019 until January 2022.

“It’s an honor to have Senator Hertzberg’s support,” said Angelique Ashby. “He works hard, never gives up and has proven what can be accomplished when you bring people together to tackle the tough issues. I hope to be that kind of leader in the State Senate.“

Ashby has also been endorsed the California Democratic Legislative Women’s Caucus, and a number of legislators including retiring State Senator Richard Pan, M.D., Senator Sydney Kamlager, and Assemblymembers Cecilia Aguiar-Curry, Rebecca Bauer-Kahan, Autumn Burke, Jim Cooper, Cristina Garcia, and Blanca Rubio.

Ashby currently represents Sacramento City Council District 1 and serves as Vice Mayor of the City of Sacramento. Senate District 8 includes the cities of Sacramento and Elk Grove, and most of Sacramento County.
